Career Award - Thank you Carlos Manuel

Portugal 28/4/2020

Each year, Corticeira Amorim grants Career Awards to a select group of individuals chosen from its many employees, who merit special distinction, due to their long-lasting contribution, irrevocable commitment and complete dedication to the company over the years. The awards reflect recognition of the professionalism, merit and pride of the people who form a core part of our group. They also pay tribute to the human dimension of the members of a unique team. This April, a month dedicated to our People, we want to celebrate our employees. Above all because the Amorim Family would like to express its gratitude in unison: thank you!

Carlos Manuel

He entered the company for the first time in 1972, for a job interview with Américo Amorim. After the interview, he crossed paths with António Amorim, who was curious and asked him: “So, how did it go?”. He replied that he wasn’t sure whether he’d got the job. António Amorim replied: “Do you think my brother would spend so long with you if he hadn’t liked you?”.

That was how he entered the sales back office as a professional typist. Soon after he became involved with the sales area, and a few years later assumed a management position.

That interview - almost 50 years ago - marked the entry into the group of someone who later became one of cork’s greatest ambassadors, a strong defender of all cork-based products and applications.

A man of convictions, he never shies away from a good debate with competitors and opponents. A strong man, who reveals great resistance in times of difficulty, passionate and unequivocally convincing.

Resilient, renewable and 100% sustainable, like the product that he so passionately promotes, he is a very strong salesman and a pioneer in the themes of sustainability and ecology within the group and a true example of a positive attitude and loyalty to the company.
Carlos Manuel Oliveira e Silva, who has lived the love of cork for 48 years, received the 2020 Career Award.
