Career Award - Thank you Jorge Peixoto

Portugal 16/4/2020

Each year, Corticeira Amorim grants Career Awards to a select group of individuals chosen from its many employees, who merit special distinction, due to their long-lasting contribution, irrevocable commitment and complete dedication to the company over the years. The awards reflect recognition of the professionalism, merit and pride of the people who form a core part of our group. They also pay tribute to the human dimension of the members of a unique team. This April, a month dedicated to our People, we want to celebrate our employees. Above all because the Amorim Family would like to express its gratitude in unison: thank you!

Jorge Peixoto

He joined Amorim & Irmãos SA when he was only 19 years old, in March 1970, as a 2nd year Apprentice (Praticante) after completing Year 6 of the Commerce course.

In 1974 he moved to Corticeira Amorim Indústria – now known as ACC - as a clerk. He advanced within this company: first as a bookkeeper, then as an accountant, finally as a financial officer. He also studied in his spare time and completed a BA Hons degree in Economics.

In 1988 he returned to Amorim & Irmãos, where he began his career at a tender age, this time as head of the finance department. He remained there until the early 2000s, when, as a result of Corticeira Amorim’s restructuring, he was appointed General Manager of the Raw Materials Business Unit, where he remained for the next 15 years. In this business unit he oversaw a revolution in the most traditional area of the cork business. He opened new factories, reorganised existing areas, demystified several ideas and incorporated new technology (geolocation, artificial vision) in several of the business’ more traditional areas. Since 2016, he has worked as an advisor to Corticeira Amorim, providing operational supervision of key dossiers for the group.

He is a man with a mission, with a distinctive sense of humor. He is ironic - even caustic - dedicated, persistent, feared by some and endowed with extraordinary intelligence and operational skills.

Jorge Peixoto, employee nº 145 of the Amorim Group, whose vision and commitment has made a vital difference, was one of the 2019 winners of the Career Award.
